Word count: 6311 (again I got really invested in this one, I’m not sorry)
Summary: Everything he did, he did for his brothers. All you wanted was to see him happy. (what is this summary??)

It has been three years since the gates reopened and Queen Elsa took her place on the throne. Since then Arendelle has gone back to being the joyful and beautiful place that it was when the King and Queen were alive, with the now added perks of Elsa’s powers. One of which includes the Ice Festival that has become Arendelle’s new tradition.
Every year on the Winter Solstice the kingdom holds its Ice Festival. An afternoon consisting of games and activities for the children, followed by a huge feast in the palace for all of the subjects. But as great as that all is; your favourite part of the festival comes after dinner when the Queen holds her ice carving competition, challenging her subjects to come forward and make beautiful art out of giant blocks of ice.
For the past three years, you have been coming out with your parents and watching the competition together. There is something about the way the contestants are able to make such marvelous sculptures that just intrigues you and for as long as you can remember you have always wanted to be a sculptor.
“Practice makes perfect” your mum always says, but to you, your father’s theory seems more accurate: “everyone is good at something, but maybe this just isn’t for you.”
There are two boxes worth of attempts in the garage that say he isn’t wrong. Most of them were intended to be birthday or anniversary presents, which is why your parents haven’t thrown them out. This year though, you decided to play it safe and gift them with something they wouldn’t have to hide in a box.
***
“Happy anniversary!” you say, entering the kitchen with a thin box in hand.
“Thank you sweetheart,” you give both your parents a hug and your mother kisses the top of your head “you really didn’t need to get us anything you know.”
The strain in her voice is slight but you still hear it, “don’t worry I didn’t make it.”
“Oh good- I mean, we will love anything you give us sweet pea, so long as it comes from the heart.”
Your mother scowls at your father and you laugh: “it's okay dad I know I’m horrible. I promise if I ever get good at sculpting you guys will get the first thing I make.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
The three of you sit down at the table for breakfast. You engage in pleasant conversation with your parents as you eat and watch them exchange their gifts. When everything is done you push the box you were carrying earlier in front of your parents. You choose to just use a pretty box with a bow on top instead of wrapping paper because at least nothing will go to waste this way.
Your parents open the box together as you watch from across the table. The reaction you get is nothing short of what you were hoping for and you feel extremely pleased with yourself.
“Y/n this is wonderful! Where did you even find them to do this?” your mother holds up a photo of her and your father on their wedding day and examines it in the light coming through the window.
“I thought we lost these, where on earth did you get them?”
“I found them in the attic when I was cleaning up,” you say proudly. “The originals were small and faded so I took them to Mel’s photo studio and she enlarged them and enhanced the colour for me.”
“This is just perfect, y/n thank you.” Your mother says, giving you another hug. “Would you mind taking the pictures to the carpenters’ and get frames made for them?”
“Yeah sure, mum” you say taking the envelope from her hand.
“Thank you dear. Ask Joe to paint them all navy blue and gold, that will match the colours in the family room,” your father gives a nod to show his approval, “and tell him I’ll come by later today to pick them up and pay.”
“Okay mum, bye.” You wave over your shoulder and shut the door stepping out into the cold morning air.
The carpenter’s’ shop isn’t that far from your house, but your cheeks are still a rosy and frozen when you get there. You open the shop door and a bell dings above your head inviting Joe to pop his head up from behind the counter. He’s a plump old man with square glasses and balding silver hair.
“Y/n! Good to see you, how’re the folks?”
“They’re good, Joe” you say taking a step into the small shop and rubbing your hands together for warmth.
“Cold weather got to you huh, how ‘bout some hot chocolate to warm you up.”
Your ears perk up at the sound of hot chocolate, “that sounds perfect.”
“Wonwoo,” a boy with mint green hair walks out of the back room and into the shop, he looks like he’s no older than you are.
“You called Joe?” his voice is much deeper then you expected and you try to ignore the sudden flutter of butterflies in your stomach.
“Yes, would you mind making a mug of hot chocolate for y/n here, the weather’s made her a bit frozen.”
Wonwoo looks over at you, not having noticed you there before and smiles, “yeah sure.” He disappears into the back again leaving you with Joe.
“So what brings you by today?”
“Oh yeah,” you had gotten distracted by Wonwoo and completely forgot why you had come to the shop in the first place: “mum asked if you could make frames for these.”
You hand him the envelope and he takes out the photos to examine them, “Aren’t these just beautiful, I was at your wedding you know.”
Before you can respond, Wonwoo reenters the room with a steaming mug of hot chocolate. “Be careful, it’s hot” he says handing the mug to you.
You feel the effects of the heat instantly as your body starts to warm up. You let out a gracious sigh, “thank you.”
Joe looks from you to Wonwoo, both of you are just standing there sneeking sideways glances at each other that only he notices. “Wonwoo why don’t you take your break now and go show y/n the project you’ve been working on. She has a real interest in the art of crafting.”
His cheeks go red as his eyes go from Joe to you, “umm okay, sure.”
You follow him to the back of the shop tightly holding your warm mug between your mittens. You walk until you’re standing in front of a giant tarp which you assume conceals Wonwoo’s project. “You’ve been working on it out here? Don’t you feel cold?”
“The cold’s never bothered me, anyways this is it” he grabs the tarp and pulls it off with both hands. Underneath reveals the most beautiful hand crafted cabinet you have ever seen.
“Wow, it’s amazing! Did you really make this?” you stare at the cabinet in pure awe, resisting the strong urge to run your fingers over the detail.
“Yes and no, my father made it for my mother years ago. A few winters back our roof caved in because of all the snow on it and ruined the cabinet. Since dad never finished it the bare wood got water damage.” He points to two boards on the ground that are black and look like they’re starting to rot, “those were the original doors, I’m thinking of using the better one as a shelf for the inside.”
“If your dad made it, why don’t you let him help you fix it?” It felt like an innocent question, but when you saw the look on Wonwoo’s face you instantly regretted asking it. His eyes filled with sorrow and you could tell he was biting the inside of his gum, hard. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to over step.”
“No, it’s not that,” he tilted his head to the sky and took a deep breath: “both my parents passes away when I was thirteen.”
“Oh Wonwoo,” you walk over to him wrapping your arm around his shoulder. You may have just met him but you felt for him, your parent were all you had and you couldn’t imagine life without them. “Who have you been staying with since then, you haven’t been by yourself have you?”
He wipes a tear from under his eye and lets out a sad chuckle, “not at all, I have seven brothers. We’ve all stuck together since our parents passed.”
Wonwoo felt comfortable around you, he didn’t know what it was exactly that made him feel this way but soon he was telling you about his whole life. You listened to him as he goes on about how he’s the oldest of the eight of them and he had to grow up fast and take charge of the house. He speaks about each of his brothers individually and the way they all drive him crazy at the best of times.
Something in his voice made you feel like this was his first time opening up to someone, so you encouraged him. Your parents always told you that it’s important to talk about your feelings and not keep them bottled up, and you agreed. Every time he paused you pushed him to keep going. A part of you was simply interested in his life, it was so different from your own after all.
“Three of my brothers work now, but in the beginning it was just me.
“Was working here with joe your first job?”
“Yep, my dad and Joe were good friends, he worked here part time and use to bring me with him. When Joe got the news about what happened, he reached out to us. He gave me this job and even helped make payments until I was able to do so on my own.”
“That was really kind of him.”
“It’s was, I owe him a lot, don’t know if I’ll ever be able to repay him though.”
“What do you mean?”
“I never wanted my brothers to start working so soon, I work to keep them happy, to make sure they can still enjoy themselves and get their education. If I want to stay true to that I have to keep working, everything I get goes towards them.”
“Wonwoo, that’s a lot of pressure you’re putting on yourself. You can’t just work all the time, you need to make time for yourself.”
“My free time is spent either sleeping or working on this cabinet, and even this I do for them” he pats the wood and sighs, “this cabinet was precious to my mom since it was the first thing my dad build on his own. Since they’ve gone it has become just as precious to us, a reminder of them and their love.” His mind begins to wander, but he quickly shakes himself out of it, “I should get back to work now.”
You look down at your watch and realize the two of you have been out here for two hours. “Oh my, that was a pretty long break you took.”
He shrugs, “I’ll make up for it.”
You walk back into the shop to find your mother at the checkout desk. “Thanks again Joe the frames look beautiful.”
“It’s the picture that makes the frame look good.”
She laughs and turns to leave the shop, “y/n there you are, I was wondering if Joe put you to make the frames yourself.”
“No,” you say smiling at her “this is Wonwoo he was just showing me a project he’s been working on.”
“It’s nice to meet you Wonwoo, we can’t stay and chat, though, we have dinner plans for tonight and y/n here takes forever to get ready.”
As you leave the shop you look over your shoulder and wave goodbye to your new friend. You go through the rest of the day thinking about what you could do to help him. He shouldn’t have to carry such a big responsibility all on his own.
It’s not until you are crawling into your bed that an idea hits you, “I know what I’ll do” you whisper to yourself, “tomorrow I’ll find Anna.”
***
You see the princess from across the courtyard and start to run, in hope to catch her: “Princess Anna!” Upon hearing her name she stops walking and turns in the direction of your voice.
“Hi y/n, how are you?” she says when she sees you running.
Slightly out of breath, you bow quickly before responding: “I’m good, how are you?”
“Oh, I’m great! There is absolutely nothing that could bring my mood down right now.”
You could see no reason to doubt her, she was actually glowing with happiness and you were curious as to the cause. “I’m glad to hear that, what’s put you in such a great mood?”
She gives you a look as if to say “isn’t it obvious”, but decides to answer your question anyways. “The ice festival y/n! You cannot honestly tell me you’re not over the roof excited about that.”
“Don’t you mean over the top?”
“Top of what?”
You laugh at her confusion and decide it would be easier to just let it go, “never mind. I am excited about the ice festival, or at least I want to be.”
She sits down on the fountain in the middle of the courtyard and you do the same. “What’s stopping you from being excited?”
This was what you had called her for, this was what you wanted to talk to her about, but now that she was giving you the chance to do just that you weren’t sure anymore. “Come on y/n, you know you can talk to me.”
“I do,” you know it is going to bother you until you talk to someone about it, and you’ll never get a better someone than Anna, so you take a deep breath and continue. “I met a boy yesterday.”
“Ouu a boy, give me all the details now.”
“It’s not like that Anna, his name is Wonwoo and he lives just out of Arendelle at the end of the forest.”
“Okay, so what does Wonwoo have to do with you not being excited about the ice festival?”
“Well, he lost his parents when he was young and he has to work to take care of his seven brothers since he’s the oldest. He’s never gotten to do anything fun since he’s always working and he honestly has such a big heart. All he wants is for his brothers to have the best and be happy, he always puts them first.” You can feel tears welling in your eyes, you wish you could help Wonwoo and take some of the weight off his shoulders.
“That’s terrible, extremely loving on his part, but still terrible. No one in Arendelle should have to struggle like that, not while my sister is Queen at least. I’m glad you told me this y/n, I might be able to help you, well him actually.”
Your whole body perks up when you hear those last words. “You mean it, Anna, you can help him?”
“I can’t guarantee you, but I’m about 98% sure I can be of some help. I’ll talk to Elsa and see if she can pull some strings to make things easier for them.”
“Thank you, thank you, thank you! This means so much to me!” you throw your arms around her feeling a mixture of relief and happiness. She hugs you back and after a reasonable time, you break apart.
“If there is anything Elsa and I know about its how hard it can to live without your parents.” She goes quiet for a moment letting thoughts of her parents float into her mind. You rest a hand on hers comfortingly and she smiles at you, blinking the thoughts away. “So we’ll do everything we can to make it easier for your friend and his brothers.”
Thank you so much Princess Anna, he’ll be so happy when I tell him.”
“You can’t say anything to him yet.”
“Why not?” you ask, frowning your brows.
“I still need to talk to Elsa, I told you 98% sure, not 100.”
You sigh: “alright, so what should I do in the meantime? I just want to see him happy.”
“Then do something to make him happy” she says perking up with enthusiasm. “When I first met Kristof he was kind of closed off as well. It’s not really his fault since Sven was his only friend, but going with me to find Elsa really changed him. It made him more opened to people and he saw the world differently after that. I will admit he was the opposite of this Wonwoo fella, he only cared about himself.”
“Who only cared about themselves?” As if on cue Kristof rides in on his sleigh which is being pulled by Sven. You can see blocks of ice stacked up in the back and wonder what part of the festival they will be used for.
“You were Mr. Reindeer are Better than People.”
“Excuse me, I’m the most selfless man you’ve ever met. Y/n don’t believe her lies.”
You laugh a give him a reassuring nod.
Realizing how off topic you’ve gotten, Anna gets back to the point she was trying to make. “You need to show him how to have fun again and enjoy himself. I would suggest maybe making a snowman, Elsa and I always enjoyed doing that.”
You mull the idea over in your mind, “that’s perfect, I going to find him right now and ask him to build one with me.” You stand up to leave and thank Anna one last time before running off again.
“Let me know how it goes!” she call out as she and Kristof wave goodbye.
You run down the cobblestone path that leads out of Arendelle and then make a leaf towards the forest. The snow has buried the dirt path that goes along the forest entrance but you see a pair of footprints and decide it’d be easiest to walk in them. Wonwoo’s house is three stories of yellow brick overlooking the now frozen lake. It is big, but not big enough to stop you from wondering if it’s able to hold all eight boys comfortably.
You follow the make-shift path to their front door and knock. The door is hand carved and made of solid oak, you’d expect nothing less from a woodsman. Your admiration of Wonwoo’s handy work is cut short when one of his brothers opens the door. “Can I help you?”
“Yeah, hi I’m y/n, I was wondering if I could see your brother.”
The boy standing in front of you is handsome, just like Wonwoo, and carries his same deep brown eyes and sharp features. “Which one, I have seven of them.”
Your face goes red with embarrassment, of course he wouldn’t know who you were talking about, he has no idea who you are. “I’m sorry, your eldest brother, Wonwoo.”
“Ah it’s okay, you only know one of us. It’s a good thing you said eldest though, because they’re all older than me. My name’s Chan by the way.”
His kindness and understanding make you feel better and less anxious, “it’s nice to meet you, Chan.” You shoot him a smile which he returns.
“Wait here, I’ll get Wonwoo.” He leaves you at the door and disappears into the house.
From where you stand you have a clear view of the kitchen. The first thing you see is the dining set made from wood, it’s twice as big as the one in your own house and you can count ten chairs around it. The walls are painted a bright yellow and the floor is tile with blue and white squares. You have to admit, for a house of eight boys, it’s much cleaner than you expected. As you admire the rest of the kitchen and whatever more you can see from the doorway, Wonwoo walks into the hallway to greet you.
“Y/n what are you doing here?”
“Hello to you too.” You say, slightly annoyed at his lack of greeting.
“I’m sorry, hi y/n, what are you doing here.”
“Are you busy right now?”
“Kind of yea-” another one of his brothers pops up behind him. This one is much taller than Wonwoo but has youthful features that make him appear younger than he probably is.
“Y/n right?” he asks from behind his brother, “don’t listen to him he’s not busy at all.”
“Mingyu what are you doing?” Wonwoo struggles to break free of his brother’s grip as Mingyu pushes him out the door.
“You kids have fun now. Just have him back before dinner, it’s his turn to cook.” He laughs as he shuts the door, leaving you and Wonwoo outside.
“He’s lying, I never cook.” He kicks some snow grumpily and you watch him for a moment before bursting into laughter. “What’s so funny?” he asks, looking at you suspiciously.
“You are, well you and your brothers, the way you get on with each other. I’ve only met two of them but now I want to meet the rest.”
He looks at you wondering how you could find the brothers that drive him crazy, amusing. Sure they had their good moments, and he loved them all no matter what, but Mingyu’s main goal in life was to drive Wonwoo crazy and cook food, and he almost always succeeded in that goal.
“Anyways,” you say, bringing his focus back to you, “do you want to build a snowman?”
“What?”
“Do you want to build a snowman?”
Wonwoo rubs the back of his neck shyly, “oh um..”
“I’d love to have a new friend!” Olaf skips up behind the two of you with a big smile on his face: “oh please make me a new friend!”
You look at Wonwoo with anticipation. You really hope he doesn’t turn you done since you’re doing this to make his happy. “I guess that settles it then,” he says patting Olaf on the head, “we’re making a snowman.”
“I guess we are.” You reply with a smile.
The two of you get to work on building your snowman and Olaf offers “helpful” suggestions as you go. It feels like ages since you did anything like this, your parents hardly had time anymore and you didn’t have many friends your age who were willing to join you. Every now and then you look over at Wonwoo and to your pleasure, see him happily working away.
“Do you think it should be a snowman or snowwoman?” he asks suddenly.
“Hmm, Olaf would you like a girlfriend?”
“Me? Wow, okay, will she like warm hugs too?”
“Sure, I don’t see why not” you reply turning to Wonwoo who just shrugs his shoulders in response.
From what you can tell, Wonwoo seems to be enjoying himself and that is enough for you, for now. At some point, you finally admitted to yourself that you liked him. You liked how caring he was, his the way he loses himself in whatever he is doing -whether it be carpentry or building a snowwoman- and you could not deny how incredibly handsome he was.
When the two of you are finished you take a step back to admire your work. “I think this is the best snowwoman I’ve ever made” you say proudly.
“Taking all the credit, are you? I see how it is?”
“I am not” you reply defensively.
“Olaf, who did she say build your girlfriend?”
“Seriously Wonwoo? That’s not what I meant and you know it.”
“You did say you built her y/n.”
“Thank you, Olaf,” he says shooting a smug smile at you.
“You know what,” you scoop some snow up in your hands packing it into a tight ball.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Wonwoo says warningly.
You take no heed to his warning and throw the ball of snow at him, hitting him square in the chest. Wonwoo looks down at the snowball and back to you: “oh you’re going to get it now.” And with that, you enter a full-on snowball fight. Wonwoo’s aim is dead on and it takes all of your focus to see and dodge his attacks, but he still ends up hitting you.
“Y/n over here!” Olaf calls from behind a short wall he has built. You duck behind the wall as he begins making you snowballs.
“Two again one isn’t fair!”
“It is when the one has killer aim!”
You peek up from behind the wall and see Wonwoo crouched down a few feet in front of you, packing snow. You know you won’t get an opportunity like this again so you have to get it right. With him still distracted, you make a mental note of where the snowballs are beside you and pick one up. You aim for his shoulder, making sure your arm is lined up properly, and then throw.
The snowball hits him as targeted. You don’t give him a chance to recover, throwing one after the next, after the next, until Wonwoo is laying on the ground with his arms in the air: “Ok, you win, I surrender! Just please, hold your fire!”
You stand up from behind the walk and walk over to him. He cups his hands around his eyes to block the sun and looks up at you, “are you armed?”
“No,” you saying laughing and show him your hands to prove it. Once he’s satisfied, you offer one to him, which he takes and pulls himself up.
You stand in silence waiting to see who will speak first, it’s Wonwoo. “So um y/n, the Ice festival probably started now,” you look down at your watch to see it says 5:30, the festival started over an hour ago and it was almost time for the royal dinner. “And I was wondering if you’d maybe, like to go with me?” the last few words came out as almost a whisper but you still heard them.
You feel your cheeks get hot and hope he can’t see your blush. The butterflies have also returned to your stomach, you take a breath to calm yourself down: “I’d love to.”
The two of you march through the snow and up the path to Arendelle, it doesn’t take long before you begin to hear the faint screams and laughs of children. As you approach the courtyard, beautiful ice sculptures lit up with fluorescent lights line the path you walk on. Wonwoo notices the way your whole face lights up while taking in the scene around you and he can’t help the smile that creeps across his face.
“Look at them, Wonwoo,” you say in awe “they’re breathtaking.”
“Just like you are.” You spin around and look at him with wide eyes, but he simply brushes it off with a smirk and continues walking.
You make your way around the courtyard admiring the sculptures and watching the children participate in the activities set up for them. The line for bobsleighing is pretty popular and leaves a lot of the other activities free for you to take a go at.
“Hey there! How would you like a chance to win the pretty lady a prize? All you have to do is catch a fish.” Wonwoo looks at you, silently asking for your thoughts.
“It’s up to you if you want to do it” you say shrugging your shoulders.
The two of you walk over to the ice fishing booth and you watch as Wonwoo picks his rod and bait. Since there is no actual body of water in the courtyard, the fishing hole is just a tank under the floor of the booth, though it still carries the feeling of real ice fishing. He takes a seat on a bucket and drops his line into the hole carved in the ice. You all observer quietly, looking for any form of movement from the other end of the line. It takes a few minutes until suddenly Wonwoo feels a tug. He makes sure he isn’t mistaken before pulling up quickly and dropping a fish on the cold ice floor.
“You did it!” you cheer, running up to hug him. He drops his rod to hold you in an embrace before quickly letting go.
“You’re the first person to catch a fish today. I had begun to wonder if Kristoff remembered to put fish in the tank before covering it up. Anyways, here ya go.” He hands Wonwoo a stuffed husky which he passes off to you with a smile.
“You really don’t have to you know, you did all the work anyways.”
“That’s okay, I want you to have it.”
You return a smile to him and thank the booth-keeper as you reenter the festival. Nothing much has changed since you left, except the sculptures glowing brighter now in the dark of night.
You don’t get far in walking when you hear your stomach grumble. “I think your stomach know it’s time for the feast,” Wonwoo says laughing.
“I think so too,” you reply joining him.
You follow a crowd of people into the palace and to the dining room. Thanks to Elsa’s power, both the dining and ball rooms would be covered in beautiful ice crystals and snow that fill the corners of the rooms. You both take a seat at the extremely long table and wait for Elsa to make her annual welcome speech.
“I’d like to start by thanking you all for coming out to another year’s Ice Festival. When I first started this three years ago, I had a hope that it would bring us all closer together. As you know the gate were closed for many years, and because of that I lost a lot of time that could have been used to get to know my subjects and spend time with you all, but no longer. I value and appreciate all of the time I get to spend with you and the memories we are able to make, together. I thank you all for allowing me to be your Queen, and all the warmth and support you have shown myself and my sister.” She picks up her champagne glass and holds it out in front of her: “I hope this tradition is one that will continue for many more year, cheers!”
After the toast, the room erupts into chatter and movement, with everyone filling their plates with food. Music plays in the background and you can feel the joy filling the atmosphere. While you eat you listen to Wonwoo and his brothers (who you found when you entered the dining room) talk argue about who has to do which chores tomorrow and find yourself joining in and taking the side of his brothers just to get a reaction out of him.
“Really, Wonwoo, you can’t expect Hansol to clean his room and do the dishes. If his room is as messy as you all say it is, you should probably have someone help him clean it.”
He glares at you, definitely holding back what he wants to say, you be lying if you said you didn’t find it amusing.
“Y/n, he needs to learn responsibility,” Jihoon says from beside you. “And besides, none of us are willing to go into that dump of a room anyways.”
“Okay, seriously, my room is not that bad.” Hansol pouts and you pat his head, promising to go over the next day and see if you can help him.
When dinner is over you all head outside again for your favourite part of the night, the ice carving competition. You look around for your parents and find them in the very front where you will be able to see everything perfectly.
Elsa stands before you again, introducing the competition and inviting forward anyone who thinks they’re up to it.
“Wonwoo you should do it.” You say, slightly pushing him forward.
“What, me? No, I couldn’t”
“Y/n’s right Wonwoo,” Olaf strolls up with the snowwoman you two made on his arm. He sees the surprised looks on your faces and realizes you need an introduction, “Guys, this is Mina, my girlfriend, and she likes warm hugs too!”
“It’s true, I do.” She pipes beside him.
“Now back to what I was saying, you need to participate in this competition. It can be a fun challenge for you, since you’re use to using wood, and not ice.”
He looks from Olaf to you and sighs, “Okay I’ll do it.” You give him a thank you hug and push him forward before someone can take his spot.
The competition starts and you cheer on Wonwoo as he goes straight into work mode. You watch as he slices off large pieces of ice to get the shape he wants and then begins to work on the detail.
“Hey y/n,” Olaf pulls your jacket to get your attention.
“Yeah Olaf?”
“Anna said if he wins, he’ll get a really grand prize. That’s why Elsa didn’t announce it at the beginning, since it’s only if he wins.”
It takes you a minute before you really understand what he’s telling you, “wait, so she’s agreed to help them! This is great! I can’t believe it, I knew Anna would come through for me, I’ll have to thank her later.”
Now that you know what’s at stake you cheer for Wonwoo two times harder. You want him to win more than ever and get the really grand prize Olaf told you about. As you watch him work you can finally see what he’s making, its Elsa’s signature snowflake. You look over at the other contestants’ work: and dog, a flower, and a spoon? Compared to theirs His looks the best and is the most difficult. Not many people are willing to sculpt a snowflake due to its thin and delicate structure, but it looks to you like Wonwoo is handling it very well.
When Elsa calls “time” on the competition, all the contestants step back and allow the judges to examine their work. The judges are: Elsa and Kristoff, as always, and a third judge that changes every year. This year it is a young man named Jeonghan, whom if you remember correctly, went to school with you, though he was a year older. The judges go from one sculpture to the next, examining and discussing each as the go. You stand beside Wonwoo watching eagerly for any sign of what they’re thinking.
“We have come to a decision!” Elsa announces after a few minutes, “The winner of this years’ ice carving competition, is,”
Full of anticipation, Wonwoo grabs your hand unknowingly, holding it tight. In the beginning he didn’t really want to take part in this, but after putting so much effort into his snowflake, he couldn’t help but want to win.
“The winner is, Wonwoo!”
You along with all of his brothers break into cheers. All of the boys are shouting with pride; their brother won! He blushes shyly as he walks up to the stage where the judges stand.
“As the fourth winner of this competition,” the voices die down when Elsa begins to speak again, “we would like to award you with $25, 000.” You gasp at the amount of money and Wonwoo does the same. Everyone else just cheers and claps, too pumped with energy at this point to be shocked.
Slowly after announcing the winner, the crowd breaks apart and everyone goes back to admiring the beautifully decorated courtyard as they wait for the fireworks that will end the night. Elsa calls you, Wonwoo, and his brothers to the side where you can speak without interruption, Anna is already there waiting for you.
“You’re probably wondering why the prize money is such a large amount compared to the previous years.” Elsa begins, and all you can do in nod your heads. “It has been brought to my attention, by y/n, through means of Anna, the situation you’ve been living in. As Queen, I will not allow any of my subjects to struggle the way you boys have. Anna and I know the pain of losing you parents, and we will do everything we can to ensure that you can enjoy you youth without being burdened with responsibilities, and that goes for all of you.” She looks directly at Wonwoo when she says those last words.
“Queen Elsa, this is.. I don’t.. thank you, so much.” Minghao, Seokmin and Seungkwan wrap their arms around their brother as hot tears roll down his cheeks.
“I’m not finished yet, along with the money I would like to offer you a job, working in the palace as our royal carpenter and decorator. You have an excellent eye for detail, and this way you will be able it work less but, get paid more.”
“I would be honored to, thank you again,” he wipes his eyes and composes himself before speaking again, “but I have one request.”
“Of course, what is it?”
“Give Joe the same title, I’ve been working with him for so long and he’s an excellent craftsman.”
“It will be done,” Elsa responds with a smile and with that she and Anna leave to prepare for the fireworks.
“You know what’s funny,” Wonwoo says, turning to you.
“No, what?”
“I’ll be able to repay Joe now, but how will I ever repay you?”
You take a moment to think, there are a lot of things you could say, but what you choose to say is: “just always be happy.”
The first firework shot into the air filling the sky with blue and green sparkles, “with you by my side, I will be.”
